Poem- I Am A…

I am a Tornado
You might think I’m just
a fifteen- year- old girl
with brown hair
and brown eyes
but I know I am more
way more than that
not an elephant or monkey
not a foot or nose
A tornado
a cyclone of fast moving winds
When I’m in an enraged mood
or in solitude
When I go home and cry
listening to sad songs
I am a tornado
moving violently
everyone anticipating the storm
wanting to run to the shelter
But when I calm down
the sun starts to come back out
everyone can come out of their shelters
surprising everyone with my sudden wrath
I take a deep breath
start again
and again
making a path of destruction
everywhere I go
The brown haired, brown eyed girl
is a tornado

Expository Essay- High School Dropouts

High School Dropouts
“How was practice? Did you finish your homework? Have you fed the dogs? Have you cleaned your room yet?” Jojo’s mom asked. Just like Jojo most students are bombarded with similar questions every day. The questions that make teens want to pull their hair out. I believe students drop out of school because of the everyday stress at school and at home.
Stress is pushed on teenagers quite often whether it’s sports, grades, or work. For example, staring at the plain- white- chipped ceiling Tom re-runs the continuous algebra equations. Shutting his eyes Tom attempts to stop thinking about the stress full day of school. Everyday thousands of teens are over pressured to fulfill needs of others. In addition, teens not only stress about grades but their curricular activities too. For example, as Brook looks into the eyes of her track coach she realizes that she is no longer doing track for her own personal satisfaction, it was for her coaches and family. Most teens tend to lose joy in their extra activities, because they worry about impressing their coaches and family.
Teens don’t just stress about school, stress occurs at home too. The screaming of his fifteen- month- old brother and the yelping of all eight puppies was making it extremely difficult for Jake to write his 295 words essay for English. Weather it be the blaring television, the bratty kids, or the annoying puppies, the house isn’t the best workplace for any student. Also, chores are a daily hassle for most teens. After track practice feeding the dogs, washing the dishes, and picking up around the house could be exhausting.
Therefore, I believe students drop out of school because the stress, not only at school, but at home too.

Expository Essay- Effects of Cell Phones

Effects of Cell Phones
As the eighteen-year-old guy drives through the twenty-mile-an-hour school zone, he suddenly receives an unexpected text message. As his temptation builds up, slowly reaching for the phone he loses concentration on the road. “Movies 2nite?”, the text read, by the time he realized it wasn’t important it was too late. The White Oak Sheriff’s wailing sirens caught the eighteen-year-olds attention. “Do you realize you were speeding in a school zone, sir?” Just like the eighteen-year-old many others create sticky situations for themselves using cell phones at inappropriate times. Cell phones impact people’s lives by creating accidents and increasing protection.
Cell phones nearly cause car accidents as often as drunk driving. For example, according to Edgar Snyder and Associates, in 2012, 3,328 people were killed in distraction-related crashes. While, CDC states that in 2012, 10,322 people were killed in alcohol-impaired driving crashes. It is obvious from these statistics that there is a dangerous trend of careless acts of citizens. In addition, this problem is seen in our communities with more and more people taking this risk of texting and driving. For example, cell phones are great, but texting and driving can lead to major consequences.
Phones not only cause accidents, but also prevent them. For example, driving down Old Highway 80, Katy realizes she forgot to lock her front door, she slowly pulled into a Dairy Queen parking lot to open her Safeguard app on her Iphone 5c to activate her home alarm system. Feeling as though her home is safe once again, she gets back on the road. Cell phones keep the creepy robbers out of Katy’s home, just like many other’s homes
Therefore, using cell phones while driving may not be the best idea, but activating house alarms is. Whatever the use is, cell phones have made a major impact on human society.

Expository Essay- Extreme Emotions

Extreme Emotions
Move! My grandmother drives better than you! Bumper to bumper traffic, horns blowing, people cursing at one another. Stressing that someone may scratch that new sparkly 2014 Impala, is much less important than stress levels. Controlling with extreme emotions such as stress on the freeway or losing grip of anger over a game of poker, can lead to a happier and healthier lifestyle.
Dealing with extreme emotions such as anger, frustration, sadness can cause not only yourself but others too, to lead a happier optimistic lifestyle. For example, by controlling your anger the people around you don’t have to worry about having a book thrown at their head, or being barked at for some little word they may have said. If anger isn’t controlled, then at any moment in time the teenager, single mom, or stressed boss could blow up like a ticking- time-bomb, just because they don’t agree with the weather forecast. Also, by controlling anger there is a higher possibility to enjoy more activities. Nobody enjoys playing a game with someone who becomes the Tasmanian devil every time they don’t make a touchdown. When anger is dealt with properly melt downs are less likely to happen.
In addition, controlling extreme emotions such as stress, can keep your body in healthier condition. If you stress too much, then you tend to either not eat enough, or eat too much. If you lose or gain too much weight, there is an endless list of health risks you could gain including: diabetes, obesity, heart problems, digestive problems, etc. Also, people tend to exercise when they are stressed, which isn’t a horrible idea, although too much could lead to serious health issues. Whether dealing with extreme emotions through exercise or eating, don’t over do it.
Weather that sparkly new Impala gets scratched or your team doesn’t score the winning touchdown, controlling your emotions is much more important.
